LOTR: Children of Refusal

Before the Sun. Before anyone in Middle-earth has ever needed the word "war." A man from our world wakes up as one of the first elves who ever lived. No system. What he has is messier than any of that. A head full of knowledge about a world that hasn't been built yet, and the memory of every terrible thing coming for the people sleeping around him. He can't stop all of it. He's honest enough to admit that. Some of it, though? Maybe. But that comes later. First there's the small problem of building a nation out of nothing. That's the story. Not the war waiting at the end of it, but the work that comes first. The slow, stubborn, sometimes impossible task of taking a handful of elves who looked the gods in the eye and said no, and making a civilization out of them. ━━━━━━━━ ⟡ AUTHOR’S NOTES ⟡ ━━━━━━━━ The first 17 chapters have been rewritten and improved. For new readers: The opening chapters serve as an introduction: worldbuilding, context, and setup. The Avari’s true journey begins during the Great March arc (around Chapter 14). Stick with it. The payoff is worth the setup. Genre note: This is a fantasy web novel set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth, not a xianxia or Eastern cultivation story. Think kingdom-building, diplomacy, and survival. Lore-heavy beginning: The early chapters introduce many Tolkien terms, names, and worldbuilding elements. If it feels dense at first, don’t worry. Each chapter ends with a mini-glossary to help you navigate. Long-form chapters: The chapter count may look small, but every chapter is substantial (3,000+ words minimum, often much longer). AU & apologies to lore purists: This is an Alternate Universe kingdom-building story. I apologize in advance to hardcore LOTR fans for any lore liberties. I’m doing my best to honor the source material while exploring new possibilities. Constructive feedback is always welcome (kindly, please)! Give it a chance. The Avari are waiting!!!
